A thousand words - perhaps more, perhaps less

I have neglected to post photos so far as I misplaced my camera cable. Today I borrowed a card reader from the office so I was able to upload a few snap shots from the last two weeks.

The first few pictures explore water:

  1. Yay Pictures! Where was the piped water running from and to? Did the community develop this?

  3. Hey Danielle,
Piped water runs from a local corporation called "Kafubo Water and Sewerage Company" which used to be a crown corp but is now a private one. They pump water from aquifers or rivers/lakes, treat it and then pump it out almost like what the City of Calgary does. But this pipe is just a broken link while they finish work - soon it will be a complete line that ends with a kiosk. The kiosk charges 500 kwacha per 40L I think, which sadly can not be afforded. Also, the pipes are installed in such a way that bacteria can get in (look at all the garbage in the construction trench!) (sometimes they do not flush with chlorine). A lot of people I have talked to do not have the money (about a dime) to buy kiosk water or do not have time to walk to a kiosk...

Hey Leilani - what's your email! I have been meaning to write you but seem to have misplaced it!
